This website constitutes the very early stages of what will eventually become a diverse social networking community. For now though, it's going to have a more limited scope, combining some of the favorite activities of its creator, Robert Werner, a Canadian professional engineer and technology entrepreneur. They include:

Travel
Photography
Software Development

The goal of the initial site is to bring together a wide assortment of travel information in an extremely organized manner. With luck, the end result will inform, delight, and possibly even inspire other travelers the world over!

But the website has another purpose too. A significant portion of the profits - a minimum of 50% to start and even higher in the future - will be used to fund several philanthropic endeavors. Back in December 2005 Robert founded a non-profit, all volunteer organization called BC Digital Divide. It has provided hundreds & hundreds of computers to less fortunate households throughout the Canadian province of British Columbia.

BCDD has been a terrific success but clearly much more can be done, both in terms of scope and geographic reach. So plans are in the works to create a Pelalusa Foundation, whose sole purpose will be to empower and fund like-minded organizations around the world. Four major criteria will be used to determine how the funds are distributed:

A focus on giving a hand up, not a hand out.
Complete transparency on how each grant is used.
Literacy or education must be a key part of the initiative.
Real work and tangible results are required, not bureaucracies.
